For over 26 years I have been working alongside engineering and product teams at tech companies, startups and the government. I engage in every phase of software development, from research & planning to iterative design & user testing, in order to provide a vision for teams and successful deliveries.
I am part Information Architect, part User Researcher, part Interaction and Visual Designer. My process leans heavily on understanding. Understanding the Who, What and How of the user so that I can design and release successful products.
I started my career in the SF Bay Area, working for startups and companies like Ebay, SONY, and A.O.L. then relocated to Baltimore in 2008. Here, I continued applying my user centered design approach for startups, tech companies, and government consulting (hey, they need good UX too).
I conduct in depth user research to understand the user's "current state" in order to generate requirements.
Design is the synthesis of research, data, and content into elements needed to create the solution or product.
I validate assumptions iteratively with
user testing and other metrics
before, during, and after release.
I follow an iterative design process that begins with research to uncover data to inform my designs. Then I outline flows and sketch use cases as low-fidelity wireframes. Next I refine designs iteratively with teams and stakeholders until it's "ready for dev".
I research people and the work they do to fully understand what types of solutions they need. I look at the landscape of their work environments. I analyze the information they consume. I look at their software. Then I advocate for the user throughout the development process.
I work along side of developers and engineers to balance user needs with business priorities. I use information from research, analytics and testing along with design to communicate with development teammates and iterate on the user experience.
Design systems serve as the "single source of truth" for the UX of an entire product suite. A singular system that maintains consistency across different modes, screen sizes, and device types. At Anaconda I contributed to the design system as part of my product design work, you can see an example of this in the Navigator redesign project.
If you're looking for a product designer, or if you need user research or usability testing
I'd love to hear from you!
